Our courses offer a good compromise between the continuous assessment favoured by some universities and the emphasis placed on final exams by others.

Breaking a 64-Year Trend: E.P. College Admits More Females Than Males in Historic Matriculation

In a revolutionary development for teacher education in Ghana, the E.P. College of Education has achieved a significant gender parity milestone, admitting a cohort of students where female enrollment has, for the first time, slightly surpassed that of their male counterparts.

This historic milestone was disclosed during the institution’s matriculation ceremony, held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in the College’s Multipurpose Hall.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal of the College, Prof. Conrad-Joseph Wuleka KUUDER, announced that out of a total intake of 400 students for the 2025/2026 academic year, 202 are female and 198 males. He noted the shift as remarkably important for the institution, describing it as a “positive step toward gender balance in teacher education.”

Historically, the College started in 1962 with 35 All-Male Students. The first 20 female students were admitted in 1975 making it a mixed gender College. Since then, the College has always admitted more male students.

The 2025/2026 admission cycle is remarkable for several reasons. Addressing the guests, staff, and matriculants, the Principal highlighted that this year’s intake was largely meritorious rather than protocol. It was also the first admission supervised by the Principal since he took over the reigns of the College as  head of Management. Furthermore, the more female enrolled indicates the College has been responsive to the Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 10 that encourage gender equality and reduced inequalities respectively.

Advising the matriculants, the Principal said they were greatly lucky to be admitted as the College received Two Thousand and Twenty (2,020) first choice qualified applicants and that the 400 students admitted represented only 20% of the qualified applicants. He advised the students to be disciplined, demonstrate integrity, respect, hard work and professionalism both within and outside the College premises. He reminded the matriculants that teaching was not just a career, but a calling for which they were expected to study diligently, respect their lecturers and College regulations, cultivate healthy relations and passionately participate in co-curricular and leadership ventures. He also advised them to embrace diversity as the admissions spanned several tribes existing in the country.

Highlighting the government’s No-Fees-Stress and the Free Tertiary for Persons with Disabilities policies, the Principal said students must take advantage over the policies by complying with the regulations necessary to allow them benefit. He informed the matriculants that the No-Fees-Stress Secretariat will not process any payments on behalf of the College for students who do not have a Ghana Card. He further stated that the Free Tertiary for Persons with Disabilities Policy is entirely free for students with any form of disability and cautioned that no student should attempt to fake a disability, as such individuals will be examined, identified by the medics and told off.

The Principal also took the opportunity to advise parents and prospective applicants that he has never solicited money or any form of favour in exchange for admission. He therefore cautioned that prospective students to the College must not allow themselves to be deceived by anyone demanding payment for admission.

Concluding on an inspiring note, the Principal announced that Management and the entire College community are immensely proud to now have four staff members with PhDs. He proudly named the lecturers as Dr. Fusheini Yakubu, Dr. Sylvester Atibiya, Dr. Emmanuel Mohammed Dokurugu, and Reverend Dr. Foster Eddison Mawusi.

The Principal urged all staff members currently pursuing their doctoral studies to see the achievement of their four colleagues as a resounding wake-up call and a testament to what is possible with dedication and perseverance.
