Zakaria Shaibu was born in a community call Kanville-Tuunaayili, a suburb of Tamale Metropolis. He had his primary education in Kanville-Tuunaayili M/A Primary School and Kanville R/C Primary School respectively and completed in 1989. He furthered his basic education in the same year 1989 to 1992 at Kalpohin Junior High school (now Kalpohin Senior High) and came out with distinction. He then had admission to have his secondary education at Business Senior High School (Bisco) from 1993 to 1995. He proceeded to Tamale Polytechnic (Now Tamale Technical University) to pursued two programmes; Diploma in Business Studies-DBS (Accounting Option) from 1997-1999 and High National Diploma (HND-Accounting option) from 1999- 2002 respectively. As somebody who always quest for knowledge, he was then enrolled into University of Cape Coast in 2005 to pursue Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and graduated in 2008. Zakaria is also a holder of Commonwealth Executive Masters of Business Administration (CEMBA) from 2011-2013 and Masters of Science (Msc-Accounting Option) from 2018-2021 both from KNUST. Lastly he has a certificate in Missions and Leadership from International Leadership Development Institute (Affiliated with Bethany University Singapore) from 2015-2016.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
Professional wise, Zakaria is a Chartered Accountant from Institute of Chartered Accountant-Ghana in 2015. He also holds a Post-Chartered Diploma Certificate in Forensic Audit (PCDFA) in 2018 from Institute of Chartered Accountants-Ghana. He is a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) and a member of Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana (IIA-Ghana) and Global.
WORKING EXPERIENCE
Before joining E.P. College of Education as Internal Auditor in December 2020, he has accumulated relatively some experiences in accounting, administration and auditing from the various places he has worked. He has worked as Bursar/Administrator in the Baptist Training Centre (now Northern Ghana Baptist Theological Seminary, Tamale) which is under Ghana Baptist Convention from 2001-2007. He also worked as auditor in an External Practicing Audit Firm called Egala, Atitso and Associate (Chartered Accountants Firm, Tamale Branch.), 2007- 2009. Between 2009 – 2012, Zakaria was an Accountant/ Administrative Officer for Baptist Child Development Program, a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under Christians Children Fund of Canada-CCFC( now Child Believe) which is an International Non-Governmental Organization sponsored by Canadians. He was then moved to another NGO called Creating Change Organization-CCO ( now Create Change Ghana-CCG) which is also a Canadian sponsored Organization as a Finance and Administrative Officer from 2012-2017 and was then promoted to Head of Finance and Administration in the same organization from 2017-2019.
In addition to the above working experience chalked by Zakaria, he saves a financial consultant to Create Change Ghana (His former place), Community Sustainable Development (CASUD), NGO base in Tamale, Centre for Initiative Against Human Trafficking (CIAHT) , NGO base in Tamale and many others. He saved as a Board chairman for Hope Alive Initiative (HAI), NGO base in Tamale (2011-2022), Audit Committee Chairman, Mion District Assembly (2016-2020), Audit Committee Chairman, North East Regional Council (2020-2024), Audit Committee member, Walewale Hospital ( 2019-2023), Audit Committee Member, Nanumba North Municipal Assembly( June 2022-date), Audit Committee Member/Chairman, Yendi Municipal Assembly( June 2022-Date), Audit Committee Chairman, Bimbilla Hospital ( 2023-date).
As part of his service and contribution to the academia, Zakaria thought part-time in Tamale Technical University in the Business department for the period 2019-2020 (Diploma in Business Study students). He is also a part-time teacher in Valley View University distance program, Tamale Campus (2017-date), University of Education, Winneba distance program, Tamale Nobisco Centre (2019-date).
In addition to the above, he is a treasurer for Ghana International Baptist Convention from 2015-date and has also been a treasurer for Tamale District Society, Institute of Chartered Accountant-Ghana from 2017-2020. He also train groups (most especial women groups) and institutions on financial Management in respect of how to become financial independent or financial freedom. He is a Co-founder for “Empowering Communities for Development” (ECD), a local NGO base in Tamale.
Zakaria have had a lot of experience (over 24 years) in both public Sector and Private Sector operations and have made value addition to many organizations which have impacted in both sectors positively. He is married with three sons.
