Our courses offer a good compromise between the continuous assessment favoured by some universities and the emphasis placed on final exams by others.

United in Devotion to God: The Gift of Lent and Ramadan

Today, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, marks the commencement of Two Sacred Journeys!

The Lent season starts today for our Christian friends, and Ramadan also starts today albeit some will start tomorrow.

Lent is a 40-day period of personal reflection, repentance and spiritual renewal that will culminate in the celebration of Easter.

Ramadan is also a month of fasting, prayers, and profound devotion to ALLAH.

The fact that these two holy seasons start together this year is not a mere coincidence but a beautiful gift from our Maker, God, the Almighty!

There are Common Communalities in both Lent and the Ramdan:

  1. Fasting which is a reminder of our dependence on God.
  2. Prayers, a virtue that raises our hearts above material possessions.
  3. Charity, a virtue that opens our hands and hearts to the needy.
  4. Forgiveness, a virtue that liberates us from the burden of hurts.

This suggests that though our faiths differ, we are united by purpose, united by desire, united by devotion to the Almighty God or Allah!

To Our Christian Brothers and Sisters, the Lent reminds you to walk closer to Christ, to sacrifice, to strengthen your prayers, and to love and serve others without any selfish interest. May the season make you feel the presence of God in your heart while praying towards the celebration of the joy of Easter with renewed faith.

To Our Muslim Brothers and Sisters, Ramadan is a month of discipline, charity, and total submission to the will of ALLAH. And as we fast from dawn to sunset, may our hearts be purified for the good of humanity. May we be strong in faith and merciful towards mankind.

As we fast, may we fast away division, hatred, and ill-judgments.

As we pray, may we remember to pray for peace and unity of our world and our communities.

As we give charity, may we give hope to the hopeless and strength to the weak.

May the days of prayers and the days of introspection lead all of us to the mercy and peace of God, the Almighty.

May these holy seasons help to warm our hearts towards one another, learn more about one another, and develop ties of mutual respect and harmony or unity towards one another.

I pray that after this season, we all come out stronger, cleansed, and more dedicated to peace, justice and love for one another.

Wish you a fruitful spiritually satisfying Lent and a blessed and peaceful Ramadan.

Best wishes, blessings and greetings to everyone!
